Simon Carter began in 1979 as an apprentice Bricklayer with the prominent London-based company Mowlem Construction. He quickly developed his skills in all aspects of brickwork and began specializing in historic stone restoration and terracotta. Mr. Carter excelled as an apprentice and was assigned to high profile projects such as the restoration of Salisbury Cathedral and its surrounding buildings in the Close located in the County of Wiltshire UK. From there he went to work in London in the development of the Dock Lands area. In 1982, Mr. Carter completed his apprenticeship and received the Crafts Certificate. He continued his education at Bournemouth and Poole University studying structural masonry engineering and in 1987 moved to the Bay Area. Mr. Carter worked as a mason for various companies before joining the Bricklayers and Allied Crafts Union in 1989 for whom he worked with for several years. After 20 years in the business Mr. Carter decided to venture independently and in 1999 founded Thameside Masonry.
